At the Airport: Check-in, Security, and Boarding

Airports can feel confusing, especially on your first trip. The good news is that most steps are the same everywhere. If you know a few key words and signs, you can stay calm and move faster.
First, find the check-in counter for your airline. You may show your passport and ticket, and you may check a bag. If you have only a small bag, you can look for "self check-in" kiosks.
Next, go to security. Put liquids and electronics in the right bins. Take off your jacket if they ask. Follow the staff and the signs, and you will be fine.
After security, check the screens for your gate number and boarding time. Gates can change, so look again later. If you are unsure, you can ask, "Which way is Gate 12?"
When boarding starts, line up in your group. Keep your passport and boarding pass ready. If you missed an announcement, ask politely, "Is boarding open now?" With these steps, the airport will feel much easier.
